Backing Up Your Homestead Files

MAKE SURE SITEBUILDER IS CLOSED!

If you are comfortable with CUT and PASTE (Ctrl-C & Ctrl-V) then this will be extremely easy for you... if you are not... I suggest you play around first in your "pictures" file so if anything gets slightly messy... it's nothing major.

Here is the path you need to move your pages:
MY COMPUTER > LOCAL DISK [C:] > PROGRAM FILES > HOMESTEAD > HOMESTEAD LPX > DATA > USER > SITES

This is the direct path for Windows XP... now any older version will be very similar, if not exactly the same... once you find the first main HOMESTEAD file... all paths are the same. (in theory)

Once you get into SITES you will notice files named like: _12345678
This is how Sitebuilder recognizes your site... the #'s are the "true" sitename. Now all you have to do is copy that file! Once you copy it, paste it on the same SITES folder. Your newly pasted folder should say "COPY OF _12345678". Now since it's renamed properly and clearly, now drag it, copy it or cut it and place it on a Flash drive and DISK REWRITE.

Easy huh? It's that simple. Once you copy the first main folder named "_12345678" you copy EVERYTHING in that file. Yes your pages, graphics, and sounds are copied.

If you are unsure... ask us at the forum. Maybe we can explain it in a way so you can understand it... not everyone understands the same way.

Side Note:
You do not have to have the sitebuilder closed during this. I did it with the sitebuilder running in full edit mode. But since you are new at this... something could happen. It's better to be safe than sorry. And trust me that if something goes wrong... you will have to download a new sitebuilder. Take the extra minute to shutdown and turn-on.
